Don’t Forget to Call (Saw Video Iteration)

5-channel video installation
Gallery: SAW Video
Location: Ottawa, Canada
Year: 2018
Utilizing the layout of the 5-channel video exhibition ‘Wednesdays, Before Piano’ by naakita feldman-kiss, I presented an iteration of Don’t Forget To Call, which was simultaneously being exhibited at Union Gallery in Kingston, Ontario.

Don’t Forget to Call is a video installation exploring mediated forms of communication. The installation is composed of seven ‘calls’ to my grandparents and other deceased ancestors, some of whom I’ve never met or spoken to. Throughout their lives, most of our communication was mediated through calling cards and, more recently, calling home phone numbers through Skype. This installation extends my familiarity with mediation into another realm: is a call to the afterlife that much further than a call over the internet?

I also took part in a Group Discussion called In Between Remembering: Intergenerational Practice with naakita feldman-kiss and Ivanie Aubin-Malo, moderated by Laura Taler. The discussion centered around Intergenerational Practice, including processes of learning, modes of relation, and collaborative exercises that occur between generations. (Text from SAW Video).
